Schools Sailing Cup Email us
?Sailing is a fantastic sport to learn as it is engaging, exhilarating, tactical and unpredictable. It will have the kids thinking on their feet, making decisions and craving more knowledge to beat the other teams.
Our sailing courses aim to provide an education, with new challenges and experiences in a safe learning environment.
Why not offer your children a :
- A stimulating new teaching environment
- A team building activity with personal development opportunities
- An invigorating break from routine
In 2014 Lagoon Watersports piloted a 6 week Sussex Schools Sailing League to encourage more children to get involved in watersports.
During the 6 weeks a number of schools battled it out every week to gain points to stay top of the league and ultimately win the Schools Sailing Cup.
The league was a great success adding a competitive edge to sailing whilst still learning new skills and race tactics. The cup was won by Cardinal Newman, who will be back to defend their title next year!
Our next League will be starting in Spring 2015. If you would like your school to be involved you can join the sessions that we will be running throughout the Autumn term or, if your children can already sail to a level 2 standard, you can enrol your school now.
The League – How it works
The League is an inter schools league for the schools of Sussex. There will be weekly races where schools will compete in team races to gain points and to work their way up the table to win the respect- ed Sussex Schools Sailing Trophy.
All races will take place on the lagoon, letting us take advantage of most weather conditions.
We will commence the league at the beginning of April with an Opening Event. The event will include centre orientation and introduce each participating school. This will introduce participants to the Lagoon and the boats they will be using, and will be an opportunity for the teams to meet each other with friend- ly team races.
Each school will need a minimum of 4 sailors, maximum of 6 – all having a basic sailing knowledge such as being able to rig a boat, sail across the wind and tack and gybe in a variety of conditions.
There will be a Trophy and prizes for the winning team.
Each school will pay a one off league fee. This will be £300 per School (£50 per child if you bring a maximum of 6) and will include all races and practice time each week.

Can I say thank to your staff and instructors, their patience helped my nervous eight year old really enjoy his afternoon trying different sports through the Brighton council scheme.
Davison High School for Girls
Thank you so much for two such fantastic visits to the Lagoon this week. Monday was a shaky start with the weather, but how brilliant that they could still come over and get on the water. I understand you even got some sunshine your end! The windsurfing courses are always the most popular so I expect to be in touch in the new term to book for next summer again!
