“Outdoor activities, both at school and on residential courses, enable pupils to enjoy challenging and unfamiliar experiences that test and develop their physical, social and personal skills. They can be among the most memorable experiences for pupils of their schools days”

David Bell 2005

“We’ve been working with Lagoon Watersports for a number of years, and their activities are always very popular among our pupils. Their staff are knowledgeable and helpful, relating well to children of a range of ages and abilities. Many of our pupils come back year after year. Importantly for us as a school group, they are flexible and work with us to meet our requirements regarding safety regulations as well as logistics. Instruction in a range of watersports is of high quality and the activities are a lot of fun. I always look forward to working with Lagoon Watersports as I know my pupils will receive an enjoyable and rewarding experience.”

Tim Peters, Lancing Prep

“We are convinced that out of classroom education enriches the curriculum and can improve educational attainment”

House of Commons Educational and Skills Committee Report January 2005

We have been using Hove Lagoon now for many years for all our watersports provision. We have had activity weeks, sailing and windsurfing courses and have recently taken part in the schools sailing cup. We have always found the Staff of the Lagoon to be incredibly professional in their work and our students have all made great progress while having a fantastic time. The equipment is up to date and of high quality. I would strongly recommend Hove Lagoon to other schools. They make the booking and organisation easy. Well done Hove Lagoon”

    Frequently Asked Questions

Hove Lagoon is an old Victorian boating lake so has a solid bottom and is only waist deep. This means that any time you need to you can stand up. It is also right next to the sea so on those hot sunny days when there is little wind we can usually expect a sea breeze. Being next to the sea when people are ready we can move their learning away from the lagoon and on to the sea itself. The lagoon is in the middle of a public park so not only do you have the beach near by but you also have a kids play area and a skate park so anyone not taking part will have something to do. There is also an onsite licensed cafe for spectators and participants.

We have taken all reasonable steps to provide your child with the level of care and assurances of safety appropriate to the activities they will undertake. However, you should be aware that certain inherent risks remain which are integral to the activity and which cannot be eliminated without destroying their unique character. Such risks can lead to feelings of discomfort, fear and apprehension and in some very rare cases, injury.

We take the safety of all our customers very seriously and in particular children. All the staff are DBS checked, they are all qualified by the NGB of their sport so this will be the RYA, BWSW and BSUPA. Many of them are qualified with all of the above. To become an instructor they all have to have a current First Aid Certificate. Both the Brighton Marina and Hove Lagoon sites are inspected in regard to their equipment and also their operating procedures and have to reach very high standards.

It is very unusual for us to cancel due to bad weather. You will be getting wet so rain is not a problem and if you have people coming to watch they can watch from our cafe which looks out over the lagoon.

We have wetsuits in all shapes and sizes to suit everyone. You are very welcome to borrow one of these (no additional charge).

No, all they need to bring on the day is their swimwear and towel. We will provide everything else for them but if they have their own they are very welcome to bring them. Please make sure if they do bring their own that it is labelled.
